F1 update – Emilia Romagna GP

Round 7 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Autodromo Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola, Italy for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

For the fifth time in 2024 Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took victory after holding off a late challenge from McLaren’s Lando Norris with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc finishing third.

Emilia Romagna GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 3rd: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 4th: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
  • 5th: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari

Other highlights:

  • Williams’s Alexander Albon had a nightmare race as after his first pitstop on lap 10 he had a loose wheel, but would eventually retire on lap 52.
  • Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso had an off weekend where he would qualify and finish the race in nineteenth after eventualy starting from the pitlane.
  • RB Racing’s Yuki Tsunoda impressed once again qualifying seventh and would finish the race in tenth.
  • Red Bull’s Sergio Perez finished eighth after starting eleventh on the grid.

News:

  • Former Renault and Benetton chief technical officer Pat Symonds has signed for Andretti Global in the teams pursuit to be on the Formula 1 grid.
  • Ferrari are set to keep their concorde bonus payment under a new agreement.
  • McLaren are to run a special livery at the Monaco Grand Prix in memory of Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna.

The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held on the streets of Monte-Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix on 24th – 26th May.
