F1 update – Emilia Romagna Grand Prix

Round 4 of the 2022 Formula 1 world championship took the drivers and teams to Italy and Imola for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo E Dino Ferrari circuit.

It saw reigning world champion Max Verstappen lead home a Red Bull 1 – 2 with his team mate Sergio Perez finishing second with McLaren’s Lando Norris completing the podium by finishing third.

Ferrari had a disasterous race at one of their home races with championship leader Charles Leclerc finishing sixth after spinning off at variante alta with 5 laps to go, which he damaged his front wing that required to be changed whilst his team mate Carlos Sainz retired on the very first lap after colliding with McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Emilia Romagna GP top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Sergio Perez – Red Bull
  • 3rd: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 4th: George Russell – Mercedes
  • 5th: Valtteri Bottas – Alfa Romeo

Other highlights:

  • 7 time world champion Sir Lewis Hamilton endured a nightmare weekend finishing 13th in his Mercedes.
  • Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda produced the drive of the race by finishing 7th after starting 16th on the grid.
  • Aston Martin Racing score their first points of the season with 4 time world champion Sebastian Vettel 8th and team mate Lance Stroll 10th.
  • The weekend saw the first sprint qualifying race of the year which was won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, the next sprint qualifying race will be held at the Austrian Grand Prix on 9th July.

Round 5 of the championship will take in Miami, USA for the Miami Grand Prix at the new circuit Miami International Gardens circuit on the weekend of 6th to 8th May.
