F1 update – Hungarian GP
Round 14 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Hungaroring in Budapest, Hungary for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
In contrast to the Belgian Grand Prix the previous race McLaren made a one stop work, but this time it was Lando Norris who took his fifth victory of the year heading home his McLaren Oscar Piastri with Mercedes driver George Russell completing the podium in third.
Hungarian GP – top 5:
- 1st: Lando Norris – McLaren
- 2nd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
- 3rd: George Russell – Mercedes
- 4th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
- 5th: Fernando Alonso – Aston Martin
Other highlights:
- Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc put his Ferrari on pole, but would drop back to forth by the end of the race as his car developed a sudden lose of pace. He was also given a 5 second time penalty for driving erratically in his battle with Mercedes driver George Russell for third and 1 point on his licence, the penalty didn’t effect his finishing position.
- Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto put in a great weekend for himself and his team with a solid sixth place finish.
- Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg was given a 5 second time penalty for a false start.
- Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton had a race weekend to forget as he found himself a lap down with a twelfth place finish, he later admitted that he was at fault with the loss of pace from qualifying and race day.
- Red Bull also had a weekend to forget as their reigning 4 time world champion Max Verstappen finished in ninth and was the last car on the lead lap whilst his team mate Yuki Tsunoda struggled even further with a seventeenth place finish.
- Aston Martin had a brilliant weekend as their drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll finished fifth and seventh respectively.
- Racing Bull’s driver Liam Lawson had a good weekend by finishing eighth the highest out of any Red Bull backed driver on race day.
- Haas’s Oliver Bearman would retire on lap 49 with damage to the undertray of his car.

- Max Verstappen has announced going into the Hungarian Grand Prix that he is to remain with Red Bull for 2026.
- Former Ferrari technical director Enrico Cardile officially starts work at Aston Martin as their new chief technical officer.
- Former Formula 1 drivers Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen are now co-owners of French football side Le Mans FC.
The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Zandvoort Circuit in Netherlands for the Dutch Grand Prix on 29th to 31st August.
