F1 update – Italian GP

The latest round of this years Formula 1 World Championship took the drivers and teams to Monza for the Italian Grand Prix.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took his eleventh win of the year heading home Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who finished second with Mercedes George Russell finishing third, where the race ended under the safety car.

Italian GP top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 3rd: George Russell – Mercedes
  • 4th: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 5th: Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes

Highlights:

  • 2020/21 Formula E champion Nyck De Vries would deputise at Williams after Alex Albon was forced to sit out of the race due to health reasons, the Dutchman would finish the race in ninth place on his debut to score two points.
  • Both Aston Martin drivers Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll would retire from the race with engine failures on lap 11 and 32 respectively, with the former bringing out a virtual safety car.
  • Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Mercedes Lewis Hamilton put in steller drives from the back of the grid to finish fourth and fifth respectively.
  • Alpine’s Fernando Alonso would retire from the race with a water pressure failure on lap 32.
  • McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo would retire on lap 47 due to an oil leak which cause the race to finish under the safety car.

News:

  • Formula 1 announced that there will 24 races in 2023 with races in Las Vegas and Qatar added to the calendar along with the return of the Chinese Grand Prix, the French Grand Prix howoever has been dropped. The race in Las Vegas in 2023 will be held on a Saturday rather then the traditional Sunday.
  • Alpha Tauri have announced that Yuki Tsunoda will be staying with the team to race for them in 2023.

The next round of this years Formula 1 World Championship is at the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore for the Singapore Grand Prix which will be held on 30th September – 2nd October.
