F1 update – Italian GP
Round 16 of the 2025 Formula One World Championship was held at the legendary Monza Autodrome Circuit in Milan, Italy for the Italian Grand Prix.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen clinched his third victory of the year in what is the fastest race in history heading home the McLaren’s of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri who finished second and third respectively.
Italian GP – top 5:
- 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
- 2nd: Lando Norris – McLaren
- 3rd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
- 4th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
- 5th: George Russell – Mercedes
Other highlights:
- Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg retired before the race even started with a hydraulics issue.
- Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso retired on lap 25 when his car’s suspension failed coming out of the Ascari section of the track.
- Mercedes driver Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli was given a 5 second time penalty for forcing Williams’s Alexander Albon off the track, this resulted in the Italian finishing in ninth.
- Haas’s Oliver Bearman was given a 10 second time penalty for colliding with Williams’s Carlos Sainz, this did not affect Bearman’s finishing position of twelfth, however he is now 2 points away from receiving an automatic race ban.
News:
- Red Bull have announced a new marketting partnership with marketting firm Carlyle.
- Ahead of their F1 debut in 2026 Audi have announced that fashion brand Adidas will be their apparel partner.
- Daniel Ricciardo has announced his retirement from racing after being named global ambassdor at Ford.
- Former Indycar driver Colton Herta has been announced as Cadillac’s test driver.
- French driver Pierre Gasly has extended his contract to remain at Alpine until 2028.
- The Monaco will remain on the F1 calendar until 2035 after the organisers extended it’s contract.
The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will be held on the streets of Baku for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 19th to 21st September.
