F1 update – Japanese GP

Round 4 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship took place at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan for the Japanese Grand Prix.

For the third time in 2024 Red Bull scored a 1 – 2 finish with reigning triple world champion Max Verstappen taking his third win of the year ahead of team mate Sergio Perez with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz completing the podium in third.

Japanese GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Sergio Perez – Red Bull
  • 3rd: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 4th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 5th: Lando Norris – McLaren

Other highlights:

  • Mercedes driver George Russell passed the McLaren of Oscar Piastri which was investigated after the race, however the Mercedes driver would keep his seventh place finish.
  • RB Racing’s Yuki Tsunoda would score points in his home race with a tenth place finish.
  • The very first lap of the race saw the RB Racing of Daniel Ricciardo and the Williams of Alexander Albon crash out at turn 3 ending both their races and causing a red flag.
  • Sauber’s Guanyu Zhou would retire on lap 13 with gearbox failure.

News:

  • There are now concerns over the active zero regulations set to be introduced in 2026 after fresh simulator data was revealed.
  • The owners of F1 Liberty Media have bought in Moto GP.
  • Former McLaren and Renault F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen is recovering from open heart surgery.

The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will take place at the Shanghai International Circuit in China for the Chinese Grand Prix on 19th to 21st April.
