F1 update – Mexican GP
Round 20 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held on the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez Circuit in Mexico City, Mexico for the Mexican Grand Prix.
McLaren’s Lando Norris dominated from lights to flag to claim his sixth win of the year heading home Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who finished, Leclerc fended of a late charge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen with the latter having to settle for third.
Mexican GP – top 5:
- 1st: Lando Norris – McLaren
- 2nd: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
- 3rd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
- 4th: Oliver Bearman – Haas
- 5th: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
Other highlights:
- Haas’s Oliver Bearman from Chelmsford, Essex put in a masterful drive to claim his best result of his Formula 1 career thus far with a fourth place finish.
- Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton was hit with a 10 second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage whilst battling with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen for third at the time. Hamilton finished the race in eighth place after serving the penalty during his first pit stop.
- Racing Bull’s driver Liam Lawson collided with Williams’s Carlos Sainz on the opening lap which he suffered damage to his front wing. Lawson would later retire from the race on lap 6 due to further damage to his car.
- Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg would retire from the race on lap 26 with handling issues with the car, Hulkenberg did report car issues since the start of the race.
- Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso would retire from the race on lap 35 with brake problems.
- Williams’s Carlos Sainz was hit with a 5 second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane for his first of 2 pit stops. Sainz would later retire from the race on lap 68, but he would classified in seventeenth due completing 90% of the race distance.
- There was an intra team battle at Mercedes with at George Russell being allowed past by team mate Andrea ‘Kimi’ Antonelli on lap 41, they would later revert back to their position of Antonelli finishing ahead of Russell in sixth and seventh respectively.
- Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto would overtake Racing Bulls driver Isack Hadjar quite late in the race to take final points paying position in tenth.

- Disney will be one of the sponsors of this years Las Vegas Grand Prix.
- Aston Martin have been found to be in breach of a minor cost cap rule, which no penalty was applied to the team.
- McDonald’s will become the first fast food chain to sponsor a Formula 1 when their badge goes on the Red Bull car’s for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace a.k.a the Interlagos Circuit in Sao Paolo, Brazil for the Brazilian Grand Prix on 7th to 9th November.
