F1 update – Miami GP

Round 6 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami, Florida for the Miami Grand Prix.

McLaren continued their strong start to the season with Oscar Piastri claiming his fourth win of the year heading home team mate Lando Norris who finished second with Mercedes driver George Russell completing the podium in third.

Miami GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
  • 2nd: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 3rd: George Russell – Mercedes
  • 4th: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 5th: Alexander Albon – Williams

Other highlights:

  • McLaren’s Lando Norris took victory in the sprint race ahead of team mate Oscar Piastri who finished second with the Ferrari’s Sir Lewis Hamilton completing the top 3 finishing third.
  • Alpine’s Jack Doohan collided with Racing Bull’s driver Liam Lawson at the very first corner at the start of the race ending Doohan’s race on the opening, whilst Lawson would retire on lap 37 with damage from the collision.
  • Haas’s Oliver Bearman would retire on lap 28 with an engine failure, that bought out the virtual safety car.
  • Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto would retire on lap 31 with an engine failure.
  • Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda would recieve a 5 second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane, this didn’t effect his finishing position of tenth.

News:

  • Alpine have announced that Argentinian driver Franco Colapinto will take Jack Doohan’s seat for at least 5 races, whilst their team principal Oliver Oakes has resigned from his position and is replaced by Flavio Briatore.
  • Former McLaren F1 driver and 1989 Le Mans 24 Hour race winner Jochen Mass who won the 1975 Spanish Grand Prix passed away at the age of 78.
  • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen became a father over the weekend after his partner gave birth to a baby girl.
  • The FIA threw out Red Bull’s appeal to penalise Mercedes George Russell for a yellow infringement at the Miami Grand Prix.

The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will take place at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari Circuit in Imola, Italy for Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on 16th to 18th May.
