F1 update – Monaco GP

With the cancellation of the Emilia Romanga Grand Prix due to severe wet weather, round 6 of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship was held on the streets of Monte-Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Red Bull continued their domination with Max Verstappen taking victory for the fourth time this year heading home Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso with Alpine’s Esteban Ocon finishing third in what was a dry start and a wet finish.

Monaco GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Fernando Alonso – Aston Martin
  • 3rd: Esteban Ocon – Alpine
  • 4th: Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes
  • 5th: George Russell – Mercedes

Other highlights:

  • Red Bull’s Sergio Perez endured a weekend to forget as he crashed in qualifying which meant he would start at the back of the grid, he would finish sixteenth after pitting five times in the race.
  • Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll would be the only retirement of the race after crashing at Loews hairpin, then on the run to Portier.
  • Haas’s Nico Hulkenberg was given a 5 second time penalty for colliding with William’s Logan Sargeant, but was given a further 10 second time penalty for failing to serve his initial penalty correctly.

The next round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship will take place at the Circuit De Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain for the Spanish Grand Prix on 2nd to 4th June.
