F1 update – Monaco GP

Round 8 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship was held on the Streets of Monte-Carlo for the Monaco Grand Prix.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc took victory in his home race heading home McLaren’s Oscar Piastri with Leclerc’s team mate Carlos Sainz finishing third.

Monaco GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 2nd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
  • 3rd: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 4th: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 5th: George Russell – Mercedes

Other highlights:

  • Both Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen along with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez crashed out at Beau Rivage which caused a red flag on lap 1.
  • Both Alpine’s of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly collided at Portier on lap 1 ending Ocon’s race whilst Gasly would go on to finish tenth.
  • Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll would suffer a puncture on lap 47 which he would pit, but would finish fourteenth.

News:

  • Alpine’s Esteban Ocon has received a 5 place grid penalty for the Canadian Grand Prix.
  • Both Haas drivers Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen were disqualified from qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix as their rear wing was found to have exceeded the maximum length.

The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada for the Canadian Grand Prix on 7th to 9th June.
