F1 Update – Saudi Arabian GP

Round 5 of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took his third victory of the year fending of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen despite the latter picking up a 5 second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage at the start of the race, third place went to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc.

Saudi Arabian GP – top 5:

  • 1st: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
  • 2nd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 3rd: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari
  • 4th: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 5th: George Russell – Mercedes

Other highlights:

  • Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly collided at turn 4 on the opening lap of the race which saw both drivers retire and bring out the safety car.
  • Racing Bull’s driver Liam Lawson was given a 10 second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
  • Williams enjoyed a good race as their drivers Carlos Sainz and Alexander Albon finished eighth and nineth respectively.

News:

  • Red Bull chose not to appeal Max Verstappen’s penalty at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
  • In Formula 2, Arvid Lindblad became the youngest driver in Formula 2 history to score a victory after winning Saturday’s sprint race.

The next round of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship will be at the Miami International Autodrome in Miami, Florida, USA for the Miami Grand Prix on 2nd to 4th May.
