F1 update – Singapore GP

Round 18 of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship was held at the Marina Bay Circuit in Singapore for the Singapore Grand Prix.

McLaren’s Lando Norris led from lights to flag to take his third victory of the year heading home title rival Red Bull’s Max Verstappen with Norris’s McLaren team mate Oscar Piastri finishing third.

Singapore GP – top 5:

• 1st: Lando Norris – McLaren
• 2nd: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
• 3rd: Oscar Piastri – McLaren
• 4th: George Russell – Mercedes
• 5th: Charles Leclerc – Ferrari

Other highlights:

• Williams driver Alexander Albon would retire on lap 16 with overheating problems with car.
• Haas’s Kevin Magnussen would suffer a puncture on lap 55 which would then end his race on lap 58.
• In what could possibly be his final race for Racing Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo managed to grab the fastest lap of the race.
• Only 7 drivers would finish on the lead lap the last driver to finish on the same lap as winner was Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz in seventh.

News:

• Red Bull chief strategist Will Courtney will leave the team at the end of 2025 to join McLaren.
• Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was given a punishment by the FIA for swearing during the drivers press conference during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, he has to serve community service under the FIA.
• Former Formula 1 driver Rupert Keegan who raced for Hesketh in 1977, for Surtees in 1978, for RAM and for March in 1982 has passed away at the age of 69 after a long illness.
• Alpine backed F1 Academy driver Abbi Pulling took a step closer to the F1 Academy title after claiming victory in both races at Singapore heading home Ferrari backed driver Maya Weug and Mercedes backed driver Doriane Pin in both races.

The next round of the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the United States Grand Prix on 18th to 20th October.
