F1 update – Spanish GP

Round 7 of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship took the teams and drivers to the Circuit De Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain for the Spanish Grand Prix.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen led from lights to flag to claim his fifth win of the season ahead of the two Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton finishing second and his team mate George Russell finishing third.

Spanish GP – Top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Lewis Hamilton – Mercedes
  • 3rd: George Russell – Mercedes
  • 4th: Sergio Perez – Red Bull
  • 5th: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari

Other highlights:

  • Red Bull’s Sergio Perez charged his way from eleventh on the grid to finish fourth.
  • Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda finished ninth intially, but was handed a 5 second time penalty for forcing Alfa Romeo’s Guanyu Zhou of the track at turn 1 which result in Tsunoda losing his ninth place finish and scoring no points.
  • McLaren’s Lando Norris qualified third, but a front wing damage on the opening after colliding with Lewis Hamilton on lap 1.

News:

  • The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will not be rescheduled onto the calendar for 2023.

The next round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada for the Canadian GP on 16th – 18th June.
