F1 update – US GP

Round 18 of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship took the teams and driver to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas for the United States Grand Prix.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen continued his championship winning season by clinching his fifteenth win of the year, Mercedes Lewis Hamilton finished second on the road but was disqualified as his car failed a post scruteneering check meaning that McLaren’s Lando Norris would finish second with Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz finishing third.

US GP – Top 5:

  • 1st: Max Verstappen – Red Bull
  • 2nd: Lando Norris – McLaren
  • 3rd: Carlos Sainz – Ferrari
  • 4th: Sergio Perez – Red Bull
  • 5th: George Russell – Mercedes

Other highlights:

  • Like Hamilton, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was also disqualified for also failing a post race scruteneering check.
  • Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda scored the fastest lap point of his career on his way to finishing eighth.
  • Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll put in a brilliant drive from the pitlane start to finish seventh.
  • Williams scored their first double points finish since Belgium 2021 as Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant finished ninth and tenth respectively, the latter it is their first points of their career.
  • McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon would collide on the opening lap of the race which would force both drivers to retire from the race awhile later.
  • Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso would notch up his first retirement of the season when his suspension broke on his car.

News:

  • Formula E champion Jake Dennis will drive in a Red Bull in free practice 1 at Abu Dhabi later this year.
  • Spain’s Marta Garcia would be crowned the inaurgral champion of F1 Academy a racing series for female racing drivers.

The next round of the 2023 Formula 1 World Championship will be held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City for the Mexican Grand Prix on 27th to 29th October.
