Motorsport Update – 15th February

The motor racing season is edging ever closer however there have been some changes to some motorsport events due to Covid-19 restrictions. Below some of the latest news from the world of motorsport in the last week. 

F1:

• McLaren will unveil their 2021 F1 challenger at the MTC with drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo expected to take off the covers of the new MCL35M. Due to the pandemic, the launch will be held on a smaller scale this year, however it should still be a great event and you can watch the car launch virtually on McLaren’s YouTube Channel.
• Alpine’s Fernando Alonso hopes to be fit for the first race of the 2021 F1 season in Bahrain. The Spaniard is recovering following surgery on his jaw which he sustained after a road cycling accident in Switzerland. 
• Portuguese GP to return in May. 

BTCC:

• Colin Turkington and Tom Olliphant have been retained by WSR Team BMW for 2021.  

Indycar:

• The 2021 NTT Indycar season will begin on the 18th April 2021 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama in the US with the season concluding at Long Beach, California on the 26th September 2021.
