Motorsport Update – 26th July

The school holidays in England have finally arrived and the motorsport action this summer looks spicy indeed. Below is the latest news from the world of motorsport from the past week.

Formula E (London E Prix):

Round 12 top 3 drivers:

  • 1st: Jake Dennis (BMW)
  • 2nd: Nyck De Vries (Mercedes EQ),
  • 3rd: Alex Lynn (Mahindra),

Highlights:

  • Both of Jaguar’s Sam Bird and Mitch Evans had a torrid first race in London as he was involved in a lap 1 collison,
  • Both Nissan’s of Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland were disqualified from race 1 in London after a battery overuse.

Round 13 top 3 drivers:

  • 1st: Alex Lynn (Mahindra),
  • 2nd: Nyck De Vries (Mercedes EQ),
  • 3rd: Mitch Evans (Jaguar),

Highlights:

  • Audi’s Lucas Di Grassi won on the road, however he was demoted to 7th after the Brazillian driver was given a penalty for using the pit lane to overtake other drivers behind the safety car. At the end of the race, Di Grassi was shown the black flag and was disqualifed just hours after the race after his team failed to inform the driver of the penalty. Audi were fined 50 Thousand Euros for falling to inform Lucas DI Grassi of his Penalty.,
  • DS Tetechath’s Antonio Felix Da Costa retired after collding with the Porsche of Andre Lotterer at turn 1. (Lotterer was given a Drive Through Penalty for causing a collision)
  • Nissan’s Sebastein Buemi was also given a Penalty after he collided Audi’s Rene Rast on the Outside section of the Circuit,
  • Jaguar’s Sam Bird endured a horrendous day at the office as he retired for the second race in a row after he clashed with the Venturi of Norman Nato,

BTCC:

The Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship will return this upcoming weekend (31st July-1st August 2021) at Oulton Park. Teams and drivers will race on the Oulton Park Island Circuit which turns right at the top of the hill and cut’s out Shell Ollis Corner and Britten’s Chicane before rejoining the International Circuit at Hilltop on the run into the Hislops Chicane. Laser Tool’s Racing’s Ash Sutton leads the Drivers Championship by three points from Excelr8 Trade Price Car’s Tom Ingram going into the meeting.

The other development in the BTCC is that Team Hard now have a new recruit. Jack Mitchell joins the BTCC with Team Hard and will partner Jack Goff in the vacant seat for the remainder of the 2021 season. Mitchell is no stranger to the TOCA Paddock after completing test runs in the BTCC with Motorbase in 2014 and he is also known for winning the 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship beating current Mclaren F1 Driver Lando Norris and BTC Racing’s Senna Proctor to the title that year. Jack Mitchell will bring lots of talent to the BTCC for young drivers.

F1:

F1 will be heading to Budapest for the 2021 Hungarian GP as the Hungaroring plays host the Hungarian GP between (30th July – 1st August 2021) with Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton bearing down on Red Bull’s Max Verstappen’s championship lead.
