Motorsport update – 4th October

We are now entering the tenth month of 2021 already and the motorsporting season is still roaring on. Many are now entering their closing stages and the developments have been pouring in thick and fast. Below is the latest news from the world of motorsport in the past week.

F1:

Turkish GP:

F1 will enter the home straight this week with just 7 races to go of a thrilling 2021. The sport will be back racing between 8th-10th October 2021 at the Intercity Istanbul Circuit in Turkey. Istanbul Park is a favourite among motorsport fans as it features the iconic 4 Apex turn 8 left hander taken pretty much at full throttle. Turkey has also thrown up some memorable moments in F1, this includes:

  • 2020: Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton claiming his 7th F1 World Championship crown after winning in wet/damp conditions,
  • 2010: The Two Red Bull’s of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber colliding at turn 12 and also a McLaren 1-2 finish with Lewis Hamilton holding off Jenson Button to win after an epic battle for the lead,
  • 2006: Ferrari’s Felipe Massa won his first ever Grand Prix.

Just two points seperate Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen going into this race.

Qatar GP:

F1 have announced that the Qatar GP will take place at the Losail International Circuit between the 19th-21st November 2021. The deal that F1 has signed with Qatar is 10 years which comes into affect from 2023. Losail International Circuit is also known for hosting Moto GP Races since 2004.
