Motorsport update – 5th July

Last weekend saw plenty of motorsport action. This included: F1 and W Series headed to Austria, Indycar visited Mid-Ohio for the Honda Indy 200 and the Nascar Cup Series headed to Road America for the Jockey Made In America 250.

F1 Austrian GP top 5 drivers:

  • 1st:: Max Verstappen (Red Bull)
  • 2nd: Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes),
  • 3rd: Lando Norris (McLaren),
  • 4th: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes),
  • 5th: Carlos Sainz (Ferrari)

Key moments from the race:

  • Alpine’s Esteban Ocon retired after colliding with Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi at turn 3 on lap 1 as the Alpine suffered suspesnion damage,
  • Red Bull’s Sergio Perez was awarded two five second time penlties after forcing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc off the circuit. (Once at turn 4 and then at turn 6),
  • McLaren’s Lando Norris also recieved a 5 second time penlty for forcing Red Bull’s Sergio Perez off track at turn 4,
  • Alpha Tauri’s Yuki Tsunoda was also given two five second penilties for crossing the pitlane entry on two occasions.

W Series Austria (round 2) top 3 drivers:

  • 1st: Jamie Chadwick,
  • 2nd: Irina Sidorkova
  • 3rd: Emma Kimilainen.

Indycar Honda Indy 200 At Mid Ohio top 3 drivers:

  • 1st: Josef Newgarden,
  • 2nd: Marcus Ericsson,
  • 3rd: Alex Palou,

Nascar Cup Series At Road America:

Jockey Made In America 250 top 3 drivers:

  • 1st: Chase Elliot (Chevrolet)
  • 2nd: Christopher Bell (Toyota)
  • 3rd: Kyle Busch (Toyota)

Independence Day weekend also made it’s way to Kent at Brands Hatch as American Speedfest was back for the first time since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
