Formula 1 turns 75

Today, Formula 1 marks 75 years since the first Grand Prix took place at Silverstone on 13th May 1950.

The motorsport has moved on considerably since then, and now F1 is a global brand that takes place in over five continents.

The latest pitstop on its remarkable journey is Las Vegas. Still the newest Grand Prix on the circuit, it’s made quite a name for itself in just two seasons. In 2024, the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix attracted 306,000 fans and a global TV audience of more than 56 million.

Kicking off in just under a month (March 16th), the 2025 Formula 1 promises to be a spectacle. In fact, the Las Vegas race (November 20th– 22nd) could be the race that decides who will win the Drivers’ Championship, with many UK F1 fans either watching at home or even flying over to experience the exhilarating racing in person. Those who attended last season saw a British flag on the winners’ podium too, with Mercedes George Russell taking the flag on the Las Vegas Strip.

Aston spoke to Steve Hill, president & CEO of Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority.
