Government launch new fraud campaign due to mental health impacts
New data released today reveals the hidden cost of fraud, as victims report serious mental health struggles after being targeted by criminals.
Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to be targeted by criminals looking to steal your money, and it’s understandable to feel worried it could happen to you or a loved one.
The research shows that around 60% struggled with their mental health as a result of being a victim.
Stop! Think Fraud provides consistent, clear, and robust anti-fraud advice to the public and is backed more than 30 partners across law enforcement, tech, banking, telecoms and charities. Drawing on the expertise of leading counter-fraud experts, the campaign’s new online fraud hub provides concise, simple to follow advice, and signposts victims to relevant organisations for further advice and support.
Aston spoke to behavioural psychologist Dr Linda Papadopoulos and Charlene Marks, head of Mental Health UK’s mental health and money advice service.
