Hidden neurological disorder affecting millions

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the National Tremor Foundation and 5 years since the launch of a ground-breaking treatment (Magnetic Resonance Guided Focused Ultrasound) being available on the NHS, offering a non-invasive option as opposed to brain surgery which is the existing form of treatment.

The research reveals that 15% of the population are unaware of the condition, and 70% of people living with ET hadn’t heard of it prior to diagnosis. 38% waited until the condition became unbearable before seeking that important diagnosis.

It is the most common movement disorder, with estimates suggesting it may be up to ten times more common than Parkinson’s Disease.

Aston spoke to consultant radiologist Professor Wady Gedroyc.
