Leading UK charity for young wheelchair users is forced to close its waiting list for the first time ever
The UK’s leading charity for young wheelchair users, Whizz Kidz, has been forced to close its waiting list for specialist wheelchairs for the first time in its 35-year history.
The unprecedented decision comes as demand for mobility equipment has reached crisis levels, with over 1000 children currently waiting.
Sadly, for many children their NHS chairs are too heavy to self-propel, unsuitable for outdoor use, or lack essential postural support, which leads to more families reaching out to charities like Whizz Kidz.
Whizz Kidz has launched its “Childhood Can’t Wait” appeal to raise £750,000 urgently to reopen the waiting list and cut waiting times.
Aston spoke to Sarah Pugh, CEO of Whizz Kidz.
