Lisa Snowdon on the impacts menopause & eye health
New research by Vision Express reveals that more than two thirds of women (68%) over 40 are unaware that menopause can have a significant effect on eye health. Only 14% of women are aware that glaucoma can be caused by changes during the menopause, with almost 1 in 10 also admitting they have no clue that they could be affected by cataracts during this time too.
But it’s the easier to treat issues that women already know about, as over two thirds are aware that the menopause can cause dry eyes, changes to vision (59%) and eye irritation (55%).
75% of women believe taking a break from looking at a screen will do the trick, but others believe it’s a lifestyle change that’s needed. Over half of women feel that eating a diet rich in Omega 3 fatty acids could improve their eye health and over three quarters (78%) believe that drinking more water and keeping hydrated is key.
