Listen: adults never consider how portion size impacts their weight
Obesity is currently at epidemic levels in the UK with 26% of Brits – more than 17 million – now categorised as living with obesity.
And with discourse around drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy reaching fever point, fuelled by celebrities, influencers, and tech moguls using them as a way to “lose a bit of weight”, many are believing there is light at the end of the tunnel in the form of a quick fix and new data out today reveals that rather than eating healthily or monitoring portion control more than one in ten people would turn to diet pills or weight loss injections.
The report is being released as part of a partnership between the British Obesity Society and MyFitnessPal with the aim of raising awareness and offering support and help for those living with obesity. Whether taking GLP-1s (Ozempic/Wegovy) or not, long term health habits need to be addressed and the best way to do that is via tracking what you eat which raises awareness of portion control, calories and salt and sugar content, and accountability for personal nutrition.
Aston spoke to Jane DeVille-Almond, president of the British Obesity Society.
