Listen: Alcohol Awareness Week

During lockdown you may have over indulged in eating and drinking to make up for hospitality closing. Some of us may have even continued to spoil ourselves despite them reopening.

It can be hard to resist a drink when the sun is out or maybe it’s been a stressful time at work, but do we keep an eye on our intake?

The top reasons why we think someone would drink a worrying amount of alcohol are depression (54%), mental health issues (49%), and anxiety (45%).

In the past two years, 30% of people in the UK say a friend or family member’s alcohol consumption has increased, and almost a quarter (23%) say they know someone to be struggling with an alcoholic addiction, according to new research by Help Me Stop. 15% also admit to drinking over the recommended number of alcohol units a week.

Aston spoke to Chris Love, director of admissions at Help Me Stop.
