Listen: debunking myths of the common cold this winter
Millions of Brits are still clinging to old wives’ tales when it comes to catching a cold – with more than a quarter (27%) believing you can get one simply by being outside when the temperature drops.
28% think stepping out with damp hair is directly linked to falling ill, and 22% reckon sitting in a draughty room will make you unwell.
The research was commissioned by Yakult and also highlighted almost three in 10 (29%) are convinced cold weather weakens the immune system.
Yet while 89% think it’s important to support their immune system to keep colds at bay, 22% admitted they had no idea improving gut health can play a big part in doing so.
Aston spoke to dietitian Lucy Kerrison.
