Listen: fitness tips from 2 time Olympic gold medalist Duncan Scott

Behaviour change studies repeatedly show that the first real drop off in New Year health routines tends to arrive in early February. Numerous studies show that by the end of the first full working week of the month, motivation wanes, habits weaken, and the gap between intention and reality becomes harder to ignore.

By this point, early alarms are skipped, gym attendance falls, and everyday routines quietly slide. Breakfast is often one of the first habits to go.

New UK figures from Quaker show that more than a quarter of adults skip breakfast three times a week. The effects are practical rather than theoretical. Over half of adults say their morning eating habits affect their energy levels, while two in five say it influences their mood. Among younger adults, low energy after breakfast is particularly common.
