Falling victim to a scam leaves more than just a dent in your bank balance, it leaves deep and lasting scars, with 83% of victims saying that the experience has a long-term psychological impact.
Feelings of anger (55%), annoyance (50%), embarrassment (37%), panic (34%) and even violation (31%), are the main reasons why people decide to stay silent, with more than half of victims (52%) never telling anyone what happened.
The scale of the problem is stark as almost three in five (58%) of us admit to having been financially scammed, with nearly a third (32%) targeted more than once, according to Monzo data.
Aston spoke to psychologist Jo Hemmings and Rich Bromley, director and head of fraud & disputes risk at Financial Crime.
