Nearly half of students (43%) admit to feeling stressed about their finances ahead of starting university, with a third (34%) overwhelmed about leaving home and managing their budgets.

As the latest cohort of the UK’s young adults prepare for the next stage of their formal education, the findings reveal a lack of understanding and confidence in managing personal finances.

Just 16% of respondents feeling confident and in control of their money.

The survey from Pay.UK, owner and operator of the Current Account Switch Service, also reveals that four in 10 students didn’t feel prepared financially at all for university life.
