Listen: navigating life after a breast cancer diagnosis
Breast cancer can change a lot about your life. For many women, maintaining some semblance of normalcy amidst all that has changed can be as overwhelming as the diagnosis itself. Women can often face new challenges in their day-to-day lives including relationships and intimacy issues, managing home and work life, and how they view themselves – as new figures highlight the conversations that women find difficult to put into words.
A new survey by Breast Cancer Now – which heard the views of 1,500 women who have, or have had breast cancer in the past five years – shows almost half (46%) find it hardto articulate what they think, or how they feel, out loud throughout their breast cancer experience.
The research comes as Breast Cancer Now launches ‘Left Unsaid’ – the charity’s latest campaign tackling taboos around the ‘unspoken’ side effects of the disease, promoting open, honest and non-judgemental conversations.
Aston spoke to Jane Murphy, senior clinical nurse specialist at Breast Cancer Now.
