Listen: preparing for winter roads

As days grow short and nights long – with rain, ice and snow slowly covering our roads – Road Safety Week (14 – 20 November) is perfectly timed, inviting us to stop and think about how best to prepare our vehicles for the winter months.

On paper, there’s no better time to switch over to winter tyres – designed to help tackle harsher road conditions once temperatures drop below 7oC – however, less than one in five UK motorists think to do so, according to new research from Audi UK.

‘Conventional’ tyres are not designed for winter conditions – with the relatively hard rubber unable to absorb sufficient heat for effective grip and braking, which is further reduced by wear-and-tear built up through the year.
