Listen: the 10-minute check saving lives

A recent survey has uncovered how Brits put off a potentially life-saving blood pressure check, with confusion around when and how often to check their vital health indicator.

British Heart Foundation estimates that up to five million people could be living with undiagnosed high blood pressure in the UK, and the NHS estimates that over a five-year period, blood pressure checks at local pharmacies could prevent over 5,000 heart attacks, over 8,000 strokes and save over 4,000 lives in England alone.

With over a third (36%) of adults saying that they don’t get their blood pressure regularly checked because they haven’t had any problems with their heart yet in life, however a quick and easy check could help detect cases of undiagnosed high blood pressure and prevent cardiovascular events like heart attacks and strokes.

Aston spoke to Ruth Goss, senior cardiac nurse at British Heart Foundation and Jonathan Bridgett, regional pharmacy manager at Tesco.
