Listen: the importance of communication

Bonjour, Hola, Hello. Many of us will know how to greet people in more than our native tongue – even if it is just a simple “hello”. Over a fifth of us have learned to say hello in two languages and 19% of us have mastered the greeting in three different tongues.

Global leaders are gathering in Egypt for COP27, taking place between November 6th and November 18th, with the full focus on the climate. Critical to putting solutions in place will be communication. COP27 will represent a microcosm of our society with so many ethnicities, cultures, and languages mixing, talking clearly to each other is vital – lest some important information get lost in translation.

Research carried out by language learning company Rosetta Stone discovered a massive 69% of us believe that most of the world’s problems could be resolved with communication and 70% of UK adults believe that our global leaders do not communicate enough.

Aston spoke to UN interpreter Nadia Rose.
