Listen: weight and health tips from nutritionist Mark Gilbert
As the first month of the year draws to a close, it has been revealed that many people only stick to their diet for one month, with only one in ten lasting up to two months.
As we start to give up on our diets new research shows a lack of understanding of the health benefits of losing weight could be the stumbling block in people’s drive to stick to their strict diet.
In addition to this, research reveals other barriers including motivation (28%), comfort eating (27%) and food being a joy of life (24%) are preventing many from following through on their goals.
The figures by The 1:1 Diet by Cambridge Weight Plan, have revealed a big gap in our knowledge when it comes to recognising the health benefits of losing weight. Only one in 14 (7%) are aware losing weight can reduce weight and symptoms caused by menopause, less than a quarter (23%) know losing weight can reduce the risk of fertility problems and less than half (43%) are aware weight loss could reduce the risk of Type-2 diabetes.
