Listen: why pulses should be at the top of our shopping list

Bored of the same dull ingredients? Getting no joy from cooking? In search of a crowd-pleasing meal without the faff but with all the flavour? Maybe what you’ve been missing from your shopping list this whole time is a pulse or two.

New research by LegumeChef reveals one in six (16%) UK adults aren’t sure what a pulse is – so what are they? No, not your heart rate – we’re talking about edible seeds that grow in pods such as beans, lentils and peas.

Pulses are one of the best sources of fibre, with just one portion providing about a third of your daily recommended fibre intake. They can help lower the risks of developing type 2 diabetes, stroke, bowel cancer and heart disease. They’re great for making you feel full for longer and help with weight loss and lower blood cholesterol levels.
