Matt Johnson on men’s health

The countdown is on – Movember kicks off in just seven days. It’s time for the Mo community to get ready and embrace the shave.

Across the UK, men are being called to pick up their razors, say goodbye to their beards, and prepare to grow their best moustaches—all in support of men’s health. Every shave and ‘mo’ grown helps raise awareness for this vital cause.

Beards have become more than a style statement; they’ve evolved into symbols of masculinity, status, and even health. In fact, 44% of men aged 25-34 in the UK sport facial hair, making them the most bearded age group, while 29% of 18-24 year-olds are also embracing their whiskers. Beards have even become a status symbol, with studies showing that 80% of CEOs prefer facial hair, associating it with competence and authority.

Since 2003, Movember has funded over 1,320 projects and invested more than £180 million into research, focusing on prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health, and suicide prevention. These efforts have already made a significant impact, but there’s still much more to be done.

Aston spoke to TV presenter Matt Johnson and Tom Ellis from Movember UK.
