Ministry of Justice launch campaign to recruit new magistrates

The government is calling for employers in England and Wales to encourage their staff to take on the voluntary role of magistracy.

The appeal comes from Lord Ponsonby, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Ministry of Justice, who says magistrates are a vital part of the justice system and wants employers to add the role to volunteering policies or Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) guidance for staff.

It comes as new research shows almost two thirds (65%) of hiring managers at organisations agree that volunteering as a magistrate benefit both the employee and the employer.
