Motorsport update – 19th July

Below is the latest news from the world of motorsport in the past week.

F1 British GP:

Top 5 Drivers:

• 1st: Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes),
• 2nd: Charles Leclerc (Ferrari),
• 3rd: Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes),
• 4th: Lando Norris (McLaren),
• 5th: Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren)

Notable moments:

• Mercedes’s Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen collide at Copse on Lap 1 of the British GP at Silverstone with the Red Bull of Vertsappen suffering a high speed crash at a 51G impact with speeds of 180 MPH. Both drivers made their case to the stewards during the red flag intermission. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) received a 10 second time penalty for colliding with Max Verstappen’s Red Bull down at Copse.
• Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) won his 8th British GP after making a late overtake on Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to win a sold out Silverstone just a day before Covid-19 lockdown restrictions are lifted in England,
• Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) secured his best result with Mclaren with 5th beating home Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari as the Spaniard suffered a slow pitstop,
• Sebastian Vettel (Aston Martin) spun off on Lap 1 and then retired later in the race,
• Sergio Perez (Red Bull) endured a difficult weekend after spinning out in the sprint and then never really recovering in the race.
