Expert reveals guide to sounding like a wine expert

The UK is a nation of wine-lovers, ranking as the fifth-largest consumer of wine globally, with an average of 22 litres of wine consumed per capita in 2024. Whether it’s a wine and cheese night with friends or a glass of red with a steak dinner, many of us enjoy this timeless tipple.

While we may consume a lot of the vino, many of us wouldn’t know how to differentiate a dry wine from a crisp one, or a flat wine from a silky one.

In honour of Albariño Day, National wine expert Susy Atkins is revealing how to bluff your way through wine chat like a seasoned sommelier – with no need to memorise regions or grape varieties!
