Negative attitudes towards dating apps

As Valentine’s Day approaches, single Brits will be looking at their dating life and wondering how they too might find a long-term relationship. But for many, the modern world of internet dating can feel soulless, unnerving and transactional.

There are 16 million single people across the UK, making up 34% of all adults but 59% of women and just over half of men have negative attitudes towards dating apps such as Tinder, Bumble and Hinge. Finding a date via an app is also time consuming with the average user spending 40 hours per week swiping left and right.

From dating burnout to catfishing, filtered pictures and ghosting, dating in the modern age is both expensive and time consuming, with the average first date in the UK costing on average £115.00.

Aston spoke to dating expert and broadcaster Siobhan Copland.
