Non League Day

This weekend in sport especially for our local football teams like Bowers & Pitsea, Basildon United, Billericay Town etc, it is Non League Day which highlights clubs in the National League all the way down to the Essex Senior League.

Non League Day first started in 2010 by James Doe as a social media experiment after going to see his team Queens Park Rangers play Tavistock in Devon in a pre-season friendly.

Over the years the event has grown & grown. Many non-league clubs are run by volunteers, like us here at Gateway. The money taken at the turnstiles funding youth and junior teams for both boys and girls. And other community projects. To give you an example of this, look at our local side Bowers & Pitsea. Not only do they have a mens team, a brilliant Ladies team, but also over 20 junior and youth teams.

Non-League Day is extra special to Essex Senior League, lasts year’s 15th year anniversary of NLD was recounted as ‘The day that changed non-league’. raising over £7,500 for Prostate Cancer UK.

Aston spoke to local sports reporter Gordon Willis.
