Our everyday obsessions are revealed!

The nation has been polled to discover the people, places and things which have become woven into the fabric of British life, with the Royal Family (53%), the weather (50%), the pub (49%) and the correct way to make a cup of tea (42%) all making the list of very British everyday obsessions.

Whether holidaying abroad or enjoying the great British summer, we will endlessly debate about if it is too hot outside (40%), what to do on a bank holiday weekend (37%), what to have for dinner (27%) and moan about the traffic to whoever will listen (26%).

In fact, on average the nation talks about how much things cost 12 times a week, the weather and what to have for tea 11 times a week, what’s on TV ten times a week, their pet, how to make the perfect cuppa and politics nine times a week, according to the research by Jason’s Sourdough.

Aston spoke to Dr Anna Machin, doctor of evolutionary anthropology, writer and broadcaster.
