“Our River” – Thurrock’s Festival responding to pollution, climate & community

This May, T100 invites the community to come together in celebration of the Thames Estuary with Our River – a month-long programme of free events, walks, artist-led and creative experiences exploring the rich, complex life of Thurrock’s ever-evolving riverfront.

From graffiti artworks and music-filled finales to quiet walks and wild imaginings, Our River invites us to see the Thames not just as a backdrop, but as a living force – shaped by us, and shaping us in return. Our River encourages us to pause, listen, and reflect on its past, present and future – and to consider our own connection to this vital waterway.

Faced with increasing pressures from pollution, new developments, habitat loss, and climate change, the Thames Estuary stands at a turning point. Our River asks: how can we protect and restore it for generations to come?

Our River brings Thurrock’s riverfront to life in new and unexpected ways. Each event begins with a question – a spark for deeper reflection and dialogue. Whether you’re walking a historic route, dancing by the water or sharing stories over a picnic, communities will be part of a collective journey.

Our River is part of Beach of Dreams, Kinetika’s UK-wide coastal arts festival, and marks the 11th edition of T100’s annual festival, which began as a 10-day walking event and has evolved into a vibrant, year-round programme celebrating Thurrock’s people and places.
