It is the first half term of the academic year and after six weeks of school parents are scratching their heads to work out what to do with their children that doesn’t involve putting them in front of the TV or a tablet.
Parents are desperate to get their kids off screens yet 29% could hardly ever think of things to do with their children at home that was not screen-based.
In fact, the average primary school aged child spends 16 hours every week looking at screens at home, which equates to 34 solid days every year, according to new research from Create and Craft.
The study also found that they send just 3 hours and 48 minutes a week doing arts and craft at home including baking (59%), painting (50%) and building models (34%).
Aston spoke to Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, child psychologist and play pundit and Frances Busby, managing director at Create and Craft to discuss the importance of play and crafting, and discuss some of the fun activities that can be done during half term and the research findings in more detail.
