Perception change needed to solve housing crisis
Homebuyers are being put off from buying new-build homes due to worries about the general quality of their construction, according to a new report.
The report from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), the UK’s leading construction professional body, says housebuilders must do more to promote the quality of the homes they build to turn around this negative image.
To assist purchasers, CIOB has produced an advice guide detailing the new protections that are in place to hold housebuilders to account for any failures in quality during the sale, occupation or post-sale experience.
And it wants the government to review rules around the New Homes Quality Board (NHQB), the independent body it set up to ensure high standards in new-build housing.
Aston spoke to David Parry, report author from Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
