Poppy O’Toole on why watching TV shows could inspire our career choices

It’s well documented that we use TV for escapism, but did you know it also has the power to provide critical inspiration for some of life’s biggest decisions?

For example, the ‘Potato Queen’ and Young MasterChef Judge Poppy O’Toole had never eaten in a fancy restaurant when she set her sights on becoming a chef.

Her only culinary “experience” was having watched TV shows about the profession.

The Department for Education’s Skills for Life campaign is encouraging parents and teens to make good use of their TV time to strike up conversation about the many routes into the inspiring professions portrayed on screen.

Aston spoke to chef Poppy O’Toole and Hannah Grabham from National Careers Service.
