Race Across The World winner Alfie Watts on beach holidays
New research reveals that more than half of Britons (58%) are planning a beach break this year, yet 38% admit they’ve returned from a “relaxing” holiday still feeling exhausted.
This shift in sentiment signals a major change in how we want to holiday in 2025. According to the study by Travelzoo, a strong majority (83%) of people would be willing to swap a traditional beach break for a shorter, more adventurous and active experience – suggesting holidaymakers are increasingly seeking more fulfilling ways to spend their time away.
When asked why they’re turning to more adventurous travel, nearly half (49%) say it’s to create lasting memories, while 38% want to experience something more meaningful. A further (36%) say they’re motivated by a desire to feel healthier or more active, and interestingly, almost a third (32%) say an adventure-style trip gives them a genuine sense of achievement. Only 17% would never consider an adventurous travel experience.
