Shaunagh Brown on the cost of corner cutting
6 in 10 of us admit we’ve started cutting corners by buying unregulated or unsafe goods and services – despite the risks involved. More than half of Brits (53%) have changed their spending habits over the past year as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite.
Rising fuel prices (48%) and reduced disposable income (44%) were cited as the main reasons behind decreased spending. As a result, many admit to opting for cheaper alternatives, from clothing (43%) and household essentials (39%) to skincare products (19%), despite concerns around quality, safety and standards.
The study was commissioned by Gas Safe Register, which has teamed up with Shaunagh Brown, an ex-England Rugby Union player and former Gas Safe registered engineer, to highlight the dangers of cutting corner when it comes to goods and services. Shaunagh can discuss how important doing things properly in one’s home is, and why delaying boiler servicing can create bigger problems later.
Aston spoke to Shaunagh Brown, former England women’s rugby union plater and Ronan Howard, first delivery lead at Gas Safe Register.
