Should digital coding be taught in schools?

New research reveals that 6 out of 10 parents think it’s important that children learn how to code, while more than half (51%) believe coding should be a compulsory school subject through to GCSE.

Despite this, more than 7 in 10 parents report that their child isn’t taught coding at school as part of their regular lessons.

The survey from Raspberry Pi Foundation also shows that 60% of parents of school aged children believe that understanding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and coding will give their child a career advantage later in life.

Aston spoke to Philip Colligan, CEO of Raspberry Pi Foundation and computer science teacher Janine Kirk.
