Strictly’s Amy Dowden raises awareness for breast cancer
Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden is joining forces with the UK’s leading breast cancer charity to raise awareness, sharing her own powerful journey after being diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2023 at age 32. Amy discovered a lump through self-examination the day before her honeymoon, leading to mastectomy, chemotherapy, fertility treatment, and ongoing care including a second preventative mastectomy.
Now clear of disease since 2024 but still receiving monthly treatment, Amy’s openness has inspired thousands to check themselves and seek support, highlighting the importance of early detection and the life-changing realities of treatment side effects like fertility challenges.
New figures show that 920,000 people are living with or beyond a diagnosis of breast cancer in the UK.
The UK’s leading breast cancer charity launches its commitment to be ‘Breast Cancer Now until we’re Breast Cancer Never’ - with a bold ambition that by 2050, everyone with breast cancer will live and live well.
Aston spoke to Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden and Sally Kum, associate director of nursing and health information at Breast Cancer Now.
